I always thought elves had kinda the reverse value system we do regarding plants/animals. Like, you don't feel bad if you pull up a weed, but punching a deer to death might seem a bit extreme; elves have that backwards.
Hypocrite or Revolutionary?
Actually, considering that Shift also makes fires out of logs, he probably isn't considered a very Elfy Elf by his kind. Which probably explains why he gets along with the dwarves so well.
That is a very silly way to hunt for food. Why not simply make traps? Why not just forage?
Have any of you thought that they aren't super-eco, super-tree-hugging freaks but hunter-gatherers who simply know that they are hurt when their area is turned from a woodland to a desert due to over-foresting?
Actually, Elves stem from the same sources as Fairies, which is to say the Fay, or the Fair Folk, mystical beings with little-to-no concept of human "morality". They were basically enthralling eldrich abominations with a penchant for disproportionate retribution for perceived slights.
